Scott Flora, Consultant Scott Flora

Scott was the Executive Director of the Small Publishers Association from 2003 until March 2011. His background is in marketing and nonprofits. Scott is currently the Vice President of About Books, Inc. a custom book design and production working with authors and publishers.

 

Monica Palmer, President of APSS-Canada

Monica Palmer is a Jamaican-Canadian holistic health author, and certified book & magazine publisher, residing in Toronto. Her life’s work as a mind-body nutrition coach for over 25 years, as well as a community service worker, has transitioned into a full-time writer and inspirational speaker. She has found her niche audience with those enterprising individuals – entrepreneurs and artists – who cannot afford not to be in good health.




Sarah Tufano: Administrative Assistant, Special Projects (Sarah@bookapss.org)

Sarah Tufano has over 25 years of Sales and Marketing experience.  She has always had a passion for books and reading and was thrilled with the opportunity to join our team.  She currently resides in Farmington, CT with her husband and three children.  In her spare time she enjoys exercising, reading, going to the beach and spending time with her family and friends.


Kim Tuttle: Executive Assistant (Kim@bookapss.org)

Kim worked as a Customer Service Specialist for 14 years before running a successful home based business for 12 years.  She has been the President of the Walnut Farms Village Association in CT since 2004 and presently sits on the Board of the Hurley Hill Homeowners Association.  She currently is head of household to a family of seven including five children and works as a Commissions Specialist in Finance and as the Executive Assistant to Brian Jud, the Director of APSS.

Brian JudBrian Jud, Executive Director

Brian is an author, book-marketing consultant, seminar leader, television host, President of Book Marketing Works and a partner in Premium Book Company that sells books to non-bookstore buyers on a non-returnable, commission basis.

 Brian is the author of How to Make Real Money Selling Books (Without Worrying About Returns) and Beyond the Bookstore - a Publishers Weekly® book), a primer on non-bookstore marketing. He has written and published five titles on career transition that are distributed internationally, and is the author of the eight ebooklets with Proven Tips for Publishing Success. And Brian is creator of the series of Book Marketing Wizards and editor of the bi-weekly newsletter, Book Marketing Matters.

 Brian conducts semi-monthly book marketing webinars and is a speaker in the series of Masters of Marketing seminars held in cities around North America. He was the host of the television series The Book Authority that has aired over 650 shows. In addition, he is the author, narrator and producer of the media-training video program You're On The Air. He also wrote and published its two companion guides, "It’s Show Time" and "Perpetual Promotion".

 He was an adjunct lecturer of sales and marketing courses for graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Hartford and the University of Connecticut. Brian has a BS degree in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA in Marketing from Xavier University. He is also the founder of the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association.

Guy AchtzehnGuy Achtzehn is the president of the Promotional Bookstore and founder of the Marketing and Sales Group, a company he formed over 20 years ago selling products as premiums, incentives and ad specialties to buyers in corporation, small businesses, associations, schools, government agencies, hospitals and other prospective buyers. He has represented Simon & Schuster and Random House titles.

 


Sharon CastlenSharon Castlen, the founder/owner of Integrated Book Marketing works with small presses and independent publishers across the country in three areas: Pre-Press coaching, distribution, full marketing strategy and implementation. Since 1984, she has also shared her expertise and mentored clients, authors and publishers through workshops, keynote addresses, webinars, and ‘ask-the-expert sessions during national and regional publisher and author gatherings. She speaks each year at Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) Publishing University and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Fall Trade Show in addition to more regional author/publisher groups in the northeast. She focuses on non-fiction titles…for adults and for children. She works in both the secular and Christian communities in all aspects of her book marketing and publishing services. She is a member of IBPA, APSS, and PNBA. 



Carol McManus is best known as America's LinkedIn Lady.  Her rise to fame under this brand stemmed from her own successful use of social media in launching a new business in 2008.


Without a significant marketing budget, social platforms offered the quickest and most effective way to reach new markets and spread the word about her brand.


Today, Carol is to CEO of CKC Global Media, a company that helps businesses, associations, organizations, and entrepreneurs reach markets in their own back yard and across the globe. Her customized approach is to guide clients in becoming successful through speaking, publishing, radio, and social media.



Rudy Shur Rudy Shur the founder and publisher of Square One Publishers began his work in publishing as a field representative for Charles E. Merrill Publishing Company and William C. Brown Publishing Company, where he ranked as a top salesman in each sales force. In 1976, Mr. Shur and his partners founded Avery Publishing Group. Over time, Avery was developed into a successful mid-size firm, achieving market dominance in the field of alternative health books. In 1999, Avery was sold to Penguin Putnam Inc. Square One Publishers began as a dream of Mr. Shur, who is enjoying the opportunity to once again achieve success in the publishing arena.


Karen Strauss has been in publishing for over 30 years. She held management and marketing positions at major publishing houses that included Bantam Books, The Free Press, Crown, Random House and Avon. She is the founder of Strauss Consultants, Inc., an independent group that works with small publishers and organizations in the U.S. and abroad to help maximize their sales potential and meet their distribution needs. She is also the founder of Hybrid Global Publishing .. a publishing company that supplies publishing and marketing services for brands, organizations, and individual authors. She is the author of Book Publishing For Entrepreneurs: Top Secrets from a New  York Publisher.
